About CNP-PKK
The CNP-PKK was founded in 1975, to represent the interests of Cornish people and to preserve the identity of Cornwall. We have fought several elections at Parliamentary, and local levels. We have seen awareness of the identity grow in the last quarter of 20th century. The cross of St. Piran is recognised as the flag of Cornwall and the Cornish language, though experiencing some divisions recently, has become more widely known. Our economy is suffering at the moment, farming, fishing and mining and we work to remedy that. In the 21st century we will continue to pursue our two objectives and to build up ties with the Cornish who have emigrated, fellow regional movements in the British Isles and Europe. We link up with humanitarian, ecological, progressive, and regional movements worldwide because we are all humans on this planet. The party has been at the forefront of the campaign for Cornish self-determination for almost thirty years. The evolution of the CNP-PKK has been paralleled by the political evolution of Cornish nation herself — from an almost totally unionist country to a nation on the brink of autonomy. The Cornish people have invested a lot in their Assembly but there is a growing realisation that, although devolution was a job worth doing, it is a job half done. The CNP-PKK exists to argue the case for completing the powers of the Cornish Assembly and returning Cornwall to the normal status of an independent country. Independence means Cornwall will have a direct voice in Europe and the international community, and the power to tackle Cornwall’s social and economic problems by making Cornwall’s wealth work for Cornwall’s people. Cornwall for ever.
